Quotes Friday #2 : Wonder

Quotes Friday #2: Wonder

Quotes Friday is a monthly meme created here at Flipping Thru the Pages to share my favourite quotes from the books I read. The quotes will be presented in the order they appeared in the book so that they can form the complete story (sort of). For full details, check out the launch page.

I am back with my second installment of Quotes Friday. This time I have selected one of my favourite books of the year Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is a beautiful book which I think everyone should read. Read my full review here. Not just the story is beautiful, but it also has some beautiful quotes. Since this book is not only from one person’s PoV but from multiple, so I am going to divide the quotes accordingly. So here we begin.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

August’s Quotes

I think the only person in the world who realizes how ordinary I am is me. My name is August, by the way. I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.

“She seems very nice.”
“Yeah, she is.”
“She’s very pretty,” Mom said.
“Yeah, I know,” I answered. “We’re kind of like Beauty and the Beast.”

Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world.

Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.

The things we do outlast our mortality. The things we do are like monuments that people build to honor heroes after they’ve died. They’re like the pyramids that the Egyptians built to honor the pharaohs. Only instead of being made of stone, they’re made out of the memories people have of you.

Mr. Browne’s Quotes

Justin’s Quotes

Olivia reminds me of a bird sometimes, how her feathers get all ruffled when she’s mad. And when she’s fragile like this, she’s a little lost bird looking for its nest.

Mr. Tushman’s Quotes

The best way to measure how much you’ve grown isn’t by inches or the number of laps you can now run around the track, or even your grade point average– though those things are important, to be sure. It’s what you’ve done with your time, how you’ve chosen to spend your days, and whom you’ve touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success.

Such a simple thing, kindness. A nice word of encouragement given when needed. An act of friendship. A passing smile.

If every person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary – the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday, may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.

Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.

Julian’s Grandmother’ Quotes

“But the good thing about life, Julian,” she continued, “is that we can fix our mistakes sometimes. We learn from them. We get better.

I do not like to dwell on the past. Life is ahead of us. If we spend too much time looking backward, we can’t see where we are going!
