Happy Tuesday guys! Today’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday is Top Ten Books I Can’t Believe I Read. But again I am taking the plunge and my today’s topic is Five Famous Book Series I Won’t Be Reading Anytime Soon (or ever?). I have already discussed here why I don’t love reading series that much. But there are certain ones which compel you towards themselves to read them while there are a few which simply doesn’t make that appeal to you. So today’s post is about some of those series (5 only) which I don’t see myself reading anytime soon. In fact, there is very rare chance that I will ever read these. I know some of these are pretty famous series and I understand why, but they are simply not attracting me towards them 😛

Five Famous Book Series I Won’t Be Reading Anytime Soon

Twilight: Worldwide, people have mixed views about this series. For many, this is the series that introduced them to the magical world of reading, while a few loathe this series and are actually ashamed of admitting that they have read this. Yes, I have heard some people saying this. But I don’t judge a book unless I read it myself. the reason why I can’t see myself reading this is that I have already seen all the movies. And I have to admit, I like those movies. So now, I don’t see a point in reading this series (4 books to be precise) when I already know the whole story? I know, reading a book is a different experience, but this series doesn’t appeal me to read it somehow.

Twilight by Stephenie MeyerNew Moon by Stephnie MeyerEclipse by Stephenie MeyerBreaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

Outlander: Okay, there is precisely just two reasons why I don’t see myself reading this famous series anytime soon. It is pretty long series (8-9) which will take me years to finish and each of them has almost 800 pages head swirling

Outlander (Outlander #1) by Diana GabaldonDragonfly in Amber (Outlander #2) by Diana GabaldonVoyager (Outlander #3) by Diana GabaldonDrums of Autumn (Outlander #4) by Diana GabaldonThe Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) by Diana GabaldonA Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander #6) by Diana GabaldonAn Echo in the Bone (Outlander #7) by Diana GabaldonWritten in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander #8) by Diana Gabaldon

A Song of Ice and Fire: Well if you have read my blog a little then you must know that I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones series and yet I haven’t read this series. This is probably the only series in this list that I actually want to read. But the size of these books is intimidating. I mean for reading 800 pages, you h=must have that patience, right?

A Game of Thrones - A Song of Ice and FireA Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire #2)A Storm of Swords - A Song of Ice and FireA Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire #4)A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire #5)

Fifty Shades of Grey: Probably this is the only book series on my list which I actually do judge without reading. The reason is simple. I have seen the first movie and I hate the content of that movie/book. Though I love reading romance and erotica every once in a while, I can’t just withstand the content of this book.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades #1)Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades #2)Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades #3)

Pretty Little Liars: Well the same reason for this one as that of Game of Thrones. It is one of my favorite series of all time and I don’t want to ruin my experience of it somehow. Also, the series is too long to read 🙁

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars #1)Flawless (Pretty Little Liars #2)Perfect (Pretty Little Liars #3)Unbelievable (Pretty Little Liars #4)Wicked (Pretty Little Liars #5)Killer (Pretty Little Liars #6)Heartless (Pretty Little Liars #7)Wanted (Pretty Little Liars #8)Twisted (Pretty Little Liars #9)Ruthless (Pretty Little Liars #10)Stunning (Pretty Little Liars #11)Burned (Pretty Little Liars #12)Crushed (Pretty Little Liars #13)Deadly (Pretty Little Liars #14)Toxic (Pretty Little Liars #15)Vicious (Pretty Little Liars #16)

But these covers are definitely pretty, aren’t they?

    Great list! I haven’t read the GoT books and haven’t watched the show either, I am probably the only one, but I have no interest in this… I’ll go hide in a corner now hahaha;
I read the Pretty Little Liars series, but gave up about 11 books in…. I mean, it was supposed to be over with the 8th book, then it just kept on growing, growing and I kind of lost interest :/
    Great post 😀

Thanks Marie! Haha no need to hide in the corner 😜 There are many who don’t like it. So yeah reading it is even out of question.
For me it is just the length that scares me 😜
I can’t even imagine myself reading a series of 11 books 🙄 And it has 16.. probably it should have been stopped earlier 😜

I’ve read the A Song of Ice & Fire books & I was so intimidated by the length of them at first but what I did to get around this was picking one day a week to read them – so on Mondays I would pick up whichever book in the series I was up to & then go back to whatever book/s I was reading for the rest of the week, & repeat. It didn’t actually end up taking me that long to get through them this way & I’m attempting to do the same with the Outlander books now!

Oh wow I can’t imagine how much time it took you to finish them 😊 Long books are so no-no for me. But GoT is something that I love so may be someday? 😜
I can’t even imagine to read Outlander.. so many book in the series and each with more than 800 pages 😐
I hope you read them soon 😊

Wow the last two series are the only ones I haven’t read on that list. Outlander is one of my favorites ever but yeah it has taken me like two years to get to book 8 😂 I still love those 1000 page bricks and can’t wait for book 9 to be out lol

You are amazing lol 😛 I can understand the need for the next book in the series. Once you start a good series you just don’t want to stop 🙂 Its just that I am even afraid of picking them up 😛

    Oh man, yes!

I have had GOT on my bookshelf after I was gifted the bookset like five years ago… But it is going to be such a time-consuming series! But I want to read it so bad!

Pretty Little Liars is another one for me, but a little less daunting, because I don’t feel like I’m going to forget 4 hundred bajillion details included in one book and can therefore not read the whole thing at once.

I am currently (finally!) reading the Shadowhunter Chronicles which I never thought I would get to because I was asked to buddy read the entire thing. Friends really help!

So agree with you on Game of Thrones. I too want to read this series but the length just intimidates me. I do have the first book of the series so hopefully, I will pick that up?
I loved the PLL show. I am not ready actually to see the differences in the books and the series. And yes, 16 books?
Ooh I have heard a lot about Shadowhunter series. I might check that out 🙂 Thanks Becca!

  5. Mridula

I read Fifty Shades series, and maybe one book from the Twilight series. Didn’t enjoy much. Also the first book of GOT, could even reach halfway 😛

  7. Ivyclad Ideas

I haven’t read any of these! I was a teen during the Twilight era (or at least when the films were coming out), but I’m not into books that are all romance, and vampires aren’t my supernatural creature of choice either.

Haha I can understand 😜 Though I like to watch them in TV I am not sure if I would like to read about them in a book? Don’t know, never read any vampire story 🙈

  8. Olivia-Savannah

I have read and LOVED Twilight, but I think it really helps that I first read them when I was very young, and since then will be able to enjoy rereading them. If I read them for the first time now, at age 19, I don’t think I’d be able to love them nearly as much. I have seen the 50 Shades of Grey movies and find them ridiculous – which is why I find them hilarious. I doubt I’ll read the series either. The A Song of Ice and Fire series is so good, but so so long. I understand the hesitation.

The thing is I like the Twilight movies but I don’t see myself reading the books. They are so intimidating 😜
I found Fifty shades movies ridiculous too.. I don’t understand the point of that whole…
Actually I do want to read A Song of Ice and Fire series. I seriously want to. It’s just that it is so big 😭

  9. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

I have read both the Twilight series and the Outlander series. I did enjoy Twilight, it put reading back on my agenda, and while the writing wasn’t the most awesome I’ve aver read, that was OK.
Outlander is one of my favorite series, and I don’t care if the books are humongous! Jamie and Claire *sighs*
I think it’s good to know what you like and what you don’t like though, and 50 Shades is one series I don’t think I’ll ever read, either…

I have met many people who enjoyed Twilight and I guess I’ll enjoy it too if I read it? It’s just that now I have seen the movies it no longer attracts me.
I hate big books. I have a kind of fear for them 😐 I have heard great things about Outlander and I wanted to try. But each book is so long and also there are too many books in the series 🙈
      And yes to Fifty Shades.

  10. Jovita

I’m not going to admit how many times I’ve read the Twilight Sage or Fifty Shades series, let’s just say multiple. With both those series the writing wasn’t great, but I did enjoy the story.

I haven’t read any of the other series you mentioned. One series I will not read is Harry Potter, I have seen all the movies with my daughter and it’s her favorite but, it’s one that I’ve never been interested in reading (gasp).

Oh wow, that’s great to hear that anyone actually re-read these series. I guess the stories are kind of enjoyable?
Aww I wish I. Od convince you somehow to read Harry Potter 🙈

  11. Tiffany Chiang

Don’t read the Pretty Little Liars series!! It’s really bad in comparison to the show, and it really goes nowhere. I tried to keep up with it for 13 book, but I just gave up. Not worth 😛

Haha – so I called myself out for reading the Twilight series. I can’t believe I did that in hindsight 🙂 I’d really like to read the Game or Thrones and Outlander series someday, but like you am I’m not too thrilled about all the long books. I’ve also heard mixed things about the Pretty Little Liars series.

Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series is the one I can’t see myself ever reading – I’ve read 1-2 of her bother books and was “eh,” but mostly I don’t want to dive into another 10+ book series!

Haha no need to hide I guess 😜 Sometimes I wonder how bad actually is the writing of Twilight that most people criticise it? But I guess to the answer, I would need to read it and I am NOT ready 😃😜
I do want to try GoT series for sure, but I am not sure about Outlander.
Never heard of Mercy Thompson series. But yeah avoiding such a long series is the better idea 😜

  13. Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight

The only one I have read (and it was as awful as you assume, I promise) is Fifty Shades, because people kept saying “you can’t judge it if you haven’t read it”- so I borrowed it, so I didn’t have to give the author money, and it was so. bad. As for the others, the only one I want to read is Game of Thrones, too. But here’s the thing: I have NO confidence that George will ever actually finish the series. So if I does, I will jump on in. If not, then I haven’t read a crapload of 1000+ page books just to be left with no ending. Seems like a good plan. Love your take on this week’s topic!

Thanks Shannon 😊 I just watched the Fifty Shades moves and decided right after- I won’t read it ever 😜
I so want to read Game of Thrones but yes we don’t know when George will finish the series 🤣 Sounds like a good plan!
      Thanks Shanon.

  14. Caro @ bookcheshirecat

I’m the black sheep that is neither interested in the Game of Thrones show nor the books 😅 The book really are intimidating and so long – I’m quickly backing up when confronted with huge tomes, so I feel you. I really like the Lightbringer Series but those books are pretty long as well and as much as I want to read them it’s so hard to get myself to do it 😀

Lol 😝 I can understand your resistance towards Game of Thrones 🙈 I haven’t heard about Lightbringer series but I guess from what you are telling, I should avoid it probably 😜

  15. Kristina

Hoooly what, Pretty Little Liars serie is HUGE ! ;o

same same for twilight & Fifty Shades of Grey (we have items “inspired” of it at work .. eeeerh .. what bothers me here is how it’s not too “concentual” in the book, apparently.)
Among with thoses, let me throw Harry Potter ( yeeess… I know..), Hunger Games ( I don’t even wanna see the films… just, not interrested.) annnd I can’t think of a 5th one ..

Haha yes PLL is definitely big 😜
I can understand the other series you mentioned, may be the 5th one could be Lunar Chronicles? 😜

  16. Destiny @ Howling Libraries

Haha great list! I actually loved Twilight as a kid and kind of want to reread it this year – at least the first book – just for kicks and giggles, but otherwise, I’m with you on these! Outlander is too big and I’ve heard too much about the author that I really don’t like, so I don’t want to support it, honestly. I MIGHT try ASOIAF someday, but I’ve already DNFed the first book three times, so the odds aren’t looking good… haha!

Ahh Outlander is too big..You DnFed ASOIAF three times? That’s something that I am hearing first time for this series. I haven’t read it either, but I have heard good things about it. But yeah, I am not sure either If/when I would read it 😀

  17. Literary Feline

I would like to see the Outlander series, but I don’t have any interest in reading the books. I have read the first two Fifty Shades books and have to say you aren’t missing out. I did read the Twilight series and they were fun reads, but nothing that stand out. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t even remember much about them if they weren’t talked about so often. I have read the first Game of Thrones book and loved it. I hope to eventually read the rest of the series.

I just saw the first movie of Fifty Shades and well.. now I don’t want to read the books 😐
I enjoyed the Twilight movies for sure but I don’t want to read the books somehow.
Oh yes fir GoT. Ot is the only series in the lost that I can probably consider to read because I a huge Game of Thrones fanatic 😃
